Mrugagad being a small watch tower in the tiger valley of lonavala is surrounded by the mountain wall and pinnacles from all three sides. Numerous waterfalls over those walls in the monsoon offers a great view and makes the visit to this fort pleasant. Apart from an easy hike, this small fort also offers a lot to make it's visit a memorable and enjoyable one.
We at Nisarga Bhraman invite you for the one day trek to the fort - Mrugagad situated near Khopoli - Pali Road on Sunday, 6th July 2014.

Mrugagad; also known as Bheliv Fort from name of its base village - Bheliv, is a small hill fort and takes around one hour to see it. The way to the fort is through the dense forest along the valley between the fort and the adjuscent mountain and then a small rock patch lead you to the carved steps. A pinncale of Moradi stands tall to the east of this fort.
On the way to the top, there is a cave which is bit tough to ascend. Beautiful steps are carved on the rock to reach here on which only one person can go at a time. Few water cisterns carved in the rock and remnants of old houses can be seen on the fort. The fort was used to keep a watch on the surrounding areas including Umbarkhind and Waghdari.
